Asahi invests in Hungary

Next year, the Dreher brewery in Budapest will celebrate its 170th anniversary. In 1854, Peter Schmid founded "Kőbánya Serfőző Társaság", in 1862 the Austrian Anton Dreher took over the brewery and turned it into Hungary's largest brewery in just a few years. It has been in the hands of the Japanese Asahi Group since 2016.

With an investment of 100 billion Hungarian forints (approx. 263 million euros), Asahi wants to make Dreher's brewery fit for the future. The entire production process is to bring the brewery "to a new level that, in addition to increasing capacity and efficiency, also serves the company's ambitious goals in terms of heritage and sustainability", according to the brewery.

As a first step, 30 billion forints will be invested in a sustainable production chain by 2026. A new energy center and the renovation of the fermentation and storage tanks are planned.
