Brewer's Advent 2023 Day 20: Herrnbräu - Tradition

In the Birthplace of the German Purity Law.

Ingolstadt in the 17th century. The Bavarian Purity Law was about a hundred years old when the Herrnbräu brewery was founded. At that time there were about a dozen breweries in the city. They joined forces and formed one of the first joint stock companies in Germany - the "Actienbrauerei Ingolstadt". Since the 1960s, the beers have been sold under the brand name "Herrnbräu".

The range of Herrnbräu's products is characterized by various lagers. Pale lager, Pilsner, dark lager, Kellerbier (unfiltered Lager) and, for Christmas, a ‘Bockbier’ (strong Lager). A lot of wheat ales varieties complete the selection.

Herrnbräu Tradition

The famous German Purity Law was proclaimed in Ingolstadt in 1516. No wonder that the Ingolstadt brewery Herrnbräu brews a special beer every year on its anniversary, April 23: a German-Style Festbier (festival beer) called 'Tradition'. The full-bodied lager is golden in color. The first taste is delicately sweet before a subtle hop bitterness balances it out. Elegant, noble, aromatic - festive. Cheers.

Did the host say they would get together and drink Herrnbrau at Oktoberfest? I think she knows better than that. Isn't only the Big Six Munich brews at Oktoberfest?

Due to several wrenches being thrown in my path earlier this month, I got a hit off but and missed the review several times. I think most have been correct until the last day or two which were off, but as the previous poster said, i,'ve enjoyed them anyway. Sadly, I've only a handful left. Amazing how they go so fast.

I agree about the joy of tasting a new, cold Deutschland brew each evening. However, being able to read about a particular beer’s history, geography, creators, and awards is a big part of why I enjoy the Advent beer calendar so much. On the days I can’t read the rich backgrounds, it’s a disappointment.

Looking forward to this later this evening. My beers have matched every day. A friend the next state over seems to be having the TX collection, even though he is not in TX. However, I wouldn’t care if they matched or not. I always love the calendar because I get to pull out a different beer every morning, chill it, and look forward to drinking it in the evening. If there was no app, people would just drink their beer each day, and enjoy it. I just don’t understand the people that get so upset about the mismatched beers.
