Update the app now!
The latest update - version 7.11.0 - is available for download. In addition to a number of improvements that run in the background, there are new functions.
Original gravity
The original gravity is now displayed for every beer. This is valuable information for many beer fans. It allows conclusions to be drawn about the strength of the beer and the degree of fermentation.
The original wort, sometimes also called the original wort content, is the proportion of ingredients dissolved from the malt in the unfermented wort. This is primarily malt sugar, i.e. fermentable extract. There are also proteins, vitamins and minerals. The unit of measurement is degrees Plato (°P) or percent.
The formula is used for the - approximate - conversion of original gravity (original wort) to alcohol content:
(STW - 2) : 2 = alcohol content
Example: A doppelbock has 18°P. We can calculate with eight percent alcohol. If the strong beer has “only” 6.8%, we can assume that the brew has residual sugar and therefore a good portion of sweetness.
The hop varieties
The information on the hop varieties used is also new. If we can find them out, they will be added. For some beers we still have to do some research. So be patient and remember: some breweries make a secret of their recipes.
Comments on www.beertasting.com
Another new feature is that all comments are now also displayed on the beertasting website. Commenting is not (yet) possible there. Since most users comment via the app, that's probably not too bad, right?
Have fun with the new information.
Cheers!
